NSW ISSF 2011 State Championships

The NSW ISSF State Championships were held at Cessnock Pistol Club over the October long weekend just passed.

Several SIPC members attended and had a great weekend - despite the downpour on Sunday.

Our top female shooter, Sue G, is now Women's Air State Champion as well as A Grade gold medal winner, and 25m Pistol A Grade gold medal winner.

On the back of these performances she is also of course the 2 Match Aggregate Trophy winner - congratulations and well done Sue!

Tony A won silver in C Grade Standard Pistol, and Tim D picked up C Grade 50m Pistol silver.

Metallic Silhouette Feature Days

Now that the Rapid Fire feature days have become an established and successful part of our shooting year, the committee would like to start up a similar regular monthly feature day for Metallic Silhouette.

These will be held on Range B on one of the two afternoons rostered each month for MS.

Starting on Saturday 14 Jan 2012 at 1.45pm we will have a come-one come-all handicap match for MS.

Everyone will put in $2-00 and nominate a handicap out of 40 - winner takes all!

The match can be shot in any position (standing, sitting, prone or creedmore) and using any .22 pistol (including free pistol).

What makes all this fair is the skill (or otherwise) with which shooters nominate their handicap.

For example a shooter nominating 24 as their handicap and scoring 13 will have a final total of 24 + 13 = 37.

Anyone shooting over 40 with with their handicap will have the amount they go over subtracted from 40.

For example a shooter nominating 24 as their handicap and scoring 18 will have an interim total of 42.

This is 2 over so their final score would be 40 - 2 = 38.

The shooter scoring closest to 40 will be the winner - in the case of a tie we would have a 5 shot shoot-off.

The next scheduled afternoons will be 11 Feb, 10 Mar, 7 Apr, 5 May and 16 Jun - see the calendar.

So come along and give Metallic Silhouette a go - bring a friend to act as a spotter for you to make it even more competitive.

Black Powder 25m Special Days

As advised a couple of weeks ago, this coming Saturday, 31^st December 2011, on range D at 2.00pm will be a 25 metre BP special day similar to the rapid fire feature day. It is a self nominated handicap match with each shooter chucking in $2, winner take all. If you are coming to the range prior to lunch, please remember there is no canteen so if require something to eat bring it with you. Bring your $2 with you.

A special BP feature day will be held each 4 weeks on the following dates. They are not on the range roster so please enter them in your diary.

Blackpowder Special Day - New Years Eve

We had 3 competitors at our New Years Eve Black Powder Feature Day.

Tim D shot his second best ever score of 352, finishing with a very nice 48 on the last target. Jim C and I were trying our hardest but Tim was in front on just about every card busting his handicap by 17 points. Tim only got me by one point on handicap. I needed Bruce Mac there as a Judge to allow me the triple I was claiming on the last card. The other 2 would only give me a double which put Tim in the money. Congratulations Tim, excellent shooting.

The next Feature Day is the 28^th of this month. See you all there.

Rapid Fire Feature Day Saturday 7th January 2012

We had 9 combatants today which was a good roll up for early January.

Michi shot for the first time with her new Morini. Overall she was very consistent with 145,159,133 to score a 437. We hope you continue to shoot at Feature Day’s Michi.

Dick W was one of the first shooters off the blocks setting a blistering 595 as the score to beat. Shooter after shooter tried but no one was coming close to Dick’s 595.

Then the afternoon shift of Peter F and Pat M arrived. After a decaf cappuccino break we hit the range again. Peter picked a handicap of 50 as he is determined not to win. His series went 187,187,174 to score a 548 + 50 =598.

Sorry Dick but every time Peter puts his handicap down his off gun score goes up. As Peter's coach, Pat took all of the credit.

Correct me if I’m wrong but since we moved to the new rapid fire format Peter’s 548 would have to be a range record. Congratulations Peter, excellent shooting.

The next Feature is the 4^th Feb.

A big welcome to Aurea P shooting her debut at this match. And it was great to have David J S making his return to Service Pistol.

If you haven't shot Service Pistol before and would like to give it a go, send me an email and we'll work out how best to get you started - it's a good fun match and makes a nice change from the usual disciplines!

If you're a new member, you must have completed 12 rimfire shoots before attempting any centrefire match. However, if you are able to access a rimfire pistol or 6-shot (or better) revolver, you'd certainly be welcome to try out this match once you've completed your initial training.

Metallic Silhouette Feature Day - 14th January

We had 9 starters for the inaugural Metallic Silhouette Feature Day.

As this was our first handicap shoot, setting our handicaps involved a certain amount of guesswork. However we all chipped in our $2 and started shooting. We utilised a number of different type of pistol and shooting styles, some preferring to stand and shoot one handed (as that is what they were most comfortable doing). Others tried out the Creedmore postion with some assistance from David L who was on hand to give some useful pointers and coaching.

As we were shooting it quickly became apparent that some of us were a bit too pessimistic with our handicaps and we were out of the running for the money. Bert C busted by the most, a good 16 points – that was ok as he had shot a very good score of 31. Nino L also shot very well with a score of 28, with son Dom L shooting a creditable 18 on his first try at MS.

Congratulations to Patsy H who shot the perfect score for her handicap and scored a total of exactly 40!

BP Feature Day 21st April

Black Powder Feature Day

4 of us rolled up for today's BP Feature Day. The weather was good and the competition was hot. Brian came out the blocks with a 90 in his first series with Bill close on his heels. Steve and Matt were struggling to keep up with the 2 hot shots. Then in the second half Bill tossed any opportunity of winning out the window by putting shooting a snake. Brian streaked ahead shooting a 192 beating Bill's earlier 371 by 1 point. Matt finished up with a 340 which he was very pleased with. It was a fun afternoon.

The next BP special feature day will be on Saturday 19^th May 2012.
