Veteran Service Pistol

Veteran Service Pistol

Background

Note: The term Veteran applies to the pistols used and not (necessarily) to the shooters!

The Veteran Service Pistol match was developed by the late Sid Marriot of St Ives Pistol Club. The objective of the Veteran Pistol Service Match is to encourage the interest in and mastery of pre-1946 former Military, Service and Police pistols from around the world.

These older pistols are often of military and historical significance in a variety of makes, models and calibres, and are usually more difficult to shoot than their modern counterparts.

The pistols

A Veteran Service Pistol is defined as being a Military, Service or Police regulation issue pistol of any make, model, calibre, or nation of origin made between 1873 and 1945, or a replica thereof, using centre-fire cartridges.

Course of fire

The match is shot under service target shooting conditions in a safe and collegial manner, thereby helping those who shoot it to gain an understanding and appreciation of both the capabilities and limitations of these fine old pistols.
